Maxwell is a master motivator, and I adore everything he's written. I was a little disappointed with this one because he seemed to be caving to the memes and language of the day (one more suggestion that I "resonate" with others and I'm going to scream). But through it all Maxwell maintains his roots in the culture of character, as opposed to the culture of personality (even though he speaks of personality), and those are the roots that have always served us well.His warmth and sincerity can't help but shine through in this book, and I think I adore him even more for calling out those people of "charm" who haven't really done much other than charm others. I loved the way he stepped back and let his writer use his own voice for his own story. It takes character to do such a thing. It also gave a candid look at Maxwell and his message from the other side of the spotlight.Keep reading Maxwell and some of that character he's developed over a lifetime of genuine care and concern for others, and it starts rubbing off on you. Keep 'em coming.
I thought this book would not be what I wanted but I'm thankful I decided to give it a try. Some of the principles I knew I had, but I realize most I don't. I believe that life is all about relationship. I know I can't connect with every but I want to enjoy the ones I do have. This book has showed me a ton of areas I need to do better in. I know my relationship will benefit from this book.
I've read several of John C. Maxwell's books on leadership and some of them have been easier to read than others for me. This is a well written book with some great practical information that anyone can learn from. Who doesn't need to learn to communicate better? This book gives some great ways to connect with an audience as a speaker, with an individual or with small groups. We all communicate but connecting is something we all need to learn to do well so that our communication is more effective. This book is not filled with tricks but some well tested ways to genuinely connect with others.
I regained a lot of practical information from this book. In addition, I actually enjoyed reading it!I have come across some who say the information is not "deep." However, I want to challenge everyone to consider what they want most; to be "deep" or to be effective. We cannot escape interacting with people. This book provides the tools and common sense approaches for doing that.I would recommend this book to everyone but especially to those who are new to the sales business. It is a "must have."
This book is the missing piece in my career. I've struggled to connect with co-workers because I'm a private person, but you don't have to share the intimate details of your life to connect with others professionally...it can be as simple as asking questions and taking an interest, finding common ground, etc. I'm only on the second disc but so far it's helped me to understand why some people are so successful and draw others in while others struggle to be listened to. It's not about power or popularity, it's about making the people around you feel comfortable and understood.
How can you not like this book, John Maxwell is the man. Reading this book helps me to not just speak at people but to engage and connect with them, that's when true transformation takes place.

Great Book, lots of good insight to help guide you through the difficult task of daily communication in all settings. The principals can be applied at home or work regardless of the type of job one does. The book is not only filled with great insight and wisdom from John Maxwell, but there are great personal anecdotes that bring the points to life. I have read this book several times and refer to it often as a guide during my life's journey
This book was just amazing. I look at it as a manual in connecting. John really knows what he is talking about and can teach this topic inside and out. I also like how he included the names of everyone in the back of the book proving that he practices what he teaches!!
