I love these books I teach philosophy, I use this book, critical thinking, and philosophy for dummies to introduce my students to the methods and Ideas of directed thought, and the wonder, and power of Wisdom. I recommend to anyone that would like to expand understanding of self, reason, and evidence.
A great introductory learning tool for logic, covering a diverse range of logic study, from Mathematical, Computational, and Philosophical concepts of logic (all intertwined as the book progresses). This book helped me a lot in my computer science and math courses in college, though I will say that I wish it came with an excercise book or some exercises to check your understanding of the material.
Like the other reviewers said, this text has got a fair amount of errors. But I don't think they're majorly significant. In fact, if you're paying attention you'll catch on to them pretty quickly and a quick pencil scratch-off and write-in and you're all set again. I don't have any prior knowledge in logic so I can't really say how comprehensive this book is but it covers what I wanted it to do: to formally present, test and prove logically statements. It's got page fulls of examples and basic form types so you'll be able to manipulate all your real life logical problems with ease. Plus, cover up the answers and you've got a handy workbook as well. Not a bad investment for the home-study logician like myself.
This is a most amazing book. It guides the neophyte step by step into the complexities of symbolic logic , and it really teaches you what it is all about. I've gone through many other so called "introductions" to logic, which compared to this, do not meet one's expectations. I believe this books is as good for anyone new to the subject as for those with advanced knowledge.
Yes, it does have typos but they are easy to correct. It is not perfect but it is the best introduction for the novice I have found.

I was trying to understand certain basics of Logic and this one is very easy to assimilate. He introduces all the concepts in a nice manner with good example and it is very easy to follow. One of those dummy books which are very useful for the smart ones too.
very useful little book but at times difficult to follow....it is more sophisticated than what the title "dummies" might lead one to think.
